On Saturday 24th of November, Pam Shinkins was ordained Deacon. Pam is to serve primarily on the West but as Bishop Mark has made clear we also need clergy who are prepared to share their gifts and time across the Diocese, therefore Pam’s ordination is for the whole diocese and the Diocese will play a part in her ongoing training.
The ordination service in St Maelrubha’s was both intimate and powerful, aided by the storm blowing outside. Bishop Mark talked of the church being a holy byre, a place to gather for warmth and fellowship before going back out into the world. This was mirrored by the congregation, which had filled the church, having to walk (or run) around the outside of the church after receiving communion. Out one door and back in the other to give space for those behind.
The afternoon ended with a wonderful time of fellowship in the village hall, we even witnessed the former Priest in Charge at Poolewe (Rev Chris Dormer) dancing our new Deacon down the hall.
