What is the Autumn weekend? Well for the past four years this has been an event that allows us to spend time getting to know each other and hopefully allowing us to understand our faith a bit better.
This year the theme is Cloth for the Cradle and will explore the themes of Christmas and how we can bring them alive in our homes and churches, it will include time to sing, pray, learn and make things which can be used over that wonderful time in our churches year.
The weekend is a very relaxed time and the hostel is ideally suited for this purpose, it has two lounges, a large and comfortable dining area and plenty of space. We have sole use of the building which gives it a special feel.
On the Friday evening we will arrive in time for settling in, theme setting, supper and night prayer.
Saturday will start with breakfast, morning prayer and our first discussion of the theme. We will then drive to the start of our mystery walk (Full details of which will be left with the warden at the hostel). This is a low level walk which should end up at a secluded beach, where we will eat our packed lunch and enjoy the surroundings. Returning to the hostel, we will prepare our contribution to the following mornings worship and relax until tea time. In the evening we will provide some artwork and craft work that links into the theme and finish with reflections on what we have done during the day.
On Sunday after breakfast we will travel to Poolewe to join the congregation for the Sunday Service before returning to the hostel for lunch, before setting off back home with a minibus full of sleeping and contented passengers!!!
The weekend is designed to give space for friendships to develop, while allowing the youngsters time to explore their relationship with God.
We do not believe it is our task to tell them what to believe but to give them space to discover that for themselves.
