The Diocesan Youth NetworkThe Diocesan Youth Network is led by the Youth Chaplain: and the Diocesan Youth Officer:
This Easter join the young people of the Diocese on a Journey of Faith. Follow the link below to a Sunday Club programme that will lead us to a day of celebration at our cathedral http://www.morayrossandcaithness.co.uk/docs/OverEastertide.pdf Dear friends, I hope you have all enjoyed working through the “Leaves for Life” material over Easter. At Bishops House we have been preparing for the event in the Cathedral on the 6th June, I have been thinking a lot and Bishop Mark has been building a tree! We now have the final instructions for the day. We will all arrive at the Cathedral for 12.00pm for a short welcoming service and then a quick tour of the Cathedral, just so we know where everything is. We then get the chance to eat our packed lunches, if the weather is good out on the grass, if not an indoor picnic blanket. We will then divide into smaller groups who will produce a variety of things relating to the cathedral and our faith; these could include Icons, and stained glass! Everyone will then play some games while Bishop Mark has a quick chat with the leaders who have come with you. The day will end with a service in the Cathedral when we will build our Tree of Life using our prayer leaves, when we will sing and pray and make a lot of good and joyful noise. The music for the day is fairly well known and anyone who wants to bring an instrument (including drums etc) please feel free. The songs are We are marching in the light of God Alleluia, alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord You are the vine, we are the branches Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising You shall go out with joy If you are going to play you might want to practise. There maybe other songs but you will have to wait and see! During the day Bishop Mark will arrange for people to do a reading or a short prayer or a “shout of acclamation” if you think you could do that then be ready to tell him when you get to the Cathedral. So remember, a packed lunch, your leaves (don’t worry if this is the first you have heard of this event, leaves will be available on the day) and lots of energy, we should be ready for home by 4.00pm See you on the 6th Yours ae, Jane
Glen 09 The Scottish Episcopal Church Youth Weeks happen at Glenalmond College each year in August when young people and leaders from all over Scotland gather together for six days of sports, swimming, arts and crafts workshops, fun events, worship and conversation. It is an action packed holiday week with a difference. There is plenty of time to relax, make good friends and generally have the best time. This year there will be two separate weeks in response to demand and you can attend only one. Follow the links below for more information and an application form. http://www.morayrossandcaithness.co.uk/docs/Glen2009_LeafletAndSeparateForm.pdf and http://www.morayrossandcaithness.co.uk/docs/Glen2009_Poster.pdf
Report on Glen 08 Once again the Diocese of Moray Ross and Caithness was well represented at the annual Youth Camps at Glenalmond College, in week one there were five delegates from this diocese and in week two there were twenty one. Both weeks ran smoothly if at times a little wet!One delegate added these personal comments "Glen 08 was very good, in my opinion the best I have been to so far. I really enjoyed the involvement of the worships and the Murder Mystery was great. The fact that there where people from Sweden and others with African backgrounds added to the already wide diversity of he camp and means that we now have connections across the world. The evening events where as good as ever and the whole week had a friendly and supportive ethos. Scottish Episcopalian Youth return from Lambeth The Young Episcopalians who helped run both the IAYN (International Anglican Youth Network) stall at the Lambeth Conference and the Prayer Walk in Canterbury Cathedral have now returned to their own dioceses, this Diocese had two representatives at the conference, Ley-Anne Forsyth from St Paul's Strathnairn and Aidan Strange from Arpafeelie, Elgin ..... All those who met them commented on their awarness of the issues facing the church and on their ability to discuss and debate the issues, they all did us proud. Youth Report for 2007Once again there have been a number of events organised and run by the Diocesan Youth Committee. The first was a “weekend in the mountains” this was held at Nethybridge in June, the theme for the weekend was Creation and during the event we climbed Meall a Beuchille, walked in the Nethy woods and composed a series of songs to relate the highpoints of the weekend. The Sunday Eucharist took place in the outdoor centre, with the prayers and readings organised by the young people. We hosted a provincial youth event in Elgin over the weekend of Bishop Mark’s consecration; young people came from all over Scotland. They attended the service in Inverness, singing at the end of the communion. This was followed by a lively Ceilidh in Elgin and they joined the congregation of Holy Trinity Elgin for the Sunday service. The summer means Glenalmond and once again we had a good representation from the diocese on both weeks, we also had a number of the “Young Leaders” on the training programme from this diocese. The now traditional Torridon Retreat took place in November. We took over the Youth Hostel and looked at the issue of overseas mission and the way we share the resources of the planet. We all prepared music and drama to illustrate this theme. The highlight, as it is every year, was the beach clean and scramble at Red Point. On the Sunday morning we joined the congregation at Courthill Chapel, Kishorn where we sang and led the prayers. Bishop Mark on his travels around the Diocese is making contact with more young people who we hope to bring into the life of the Diocesan Youth Group, so if you want to hear more then hand your details to Sue Piper or contact her via the diocesan Website.
